Laurie Allen Inducted into the 2024 Theatre Hall of Honors

My passion for playwriting began at Snyder High School, under the guidance of the incredible Jerry Worsham. So, back in April, I was inducted into the 2024 Theatre Hall of Honors, alongside other individuals who have made significant accomplishments in the past and present. Having my plaque recently placed in the auditorium where I once performed has been a truly humbling experience, and I am forever grateful for this recognition!

***** LAURIE ALLEN - CLASS OF 1980 *****

Laurie attended SHS from the fall of 1976 - 1980. At the beginning of her freshman year she was in Choir and with the Fall Production being a musical...this would eventually lead her directly to the Drama Department under Director Jerry Worsham.

Here is just a sample of Laurie's involvement in the program.

  • Fall 1976 -"The Sound of Music" - Nun's Ensemble
  • Fall 1977 -"Oliver" - The Screaming Towns Person
  • Winter 1978 & 1979 -"Yuletide Follies"
  • Spring 1979 -"Macbeth" State Championship OAP winner - crew, assistant director, understudy
  • Fall 1979 - "Finian's Rainbow" - Dancer/Geologist
  • Spring 1980 - "Midsummers Night's Dream" State OAP Finalist- Helena

Laurie took Journalism her Senior year and started writing for the school paper. She wrote several articles about the drama department. She also wrote poetry during that time and her poems were included in the school newspaper, The Tiger's Tale.

Laurie made a comment that made me smile..."I loved to write back then, but never dreamed my experience in Drama would lead me to the path to writing plays! So glad it did!"

Congratulations Laurie!!!

We thank you for your involvement and contributions to the SHS Theatre Department.

Sincerely,

The HOH Committee.
